WHY DO YOU NEED A SHIELDED CORD?

Normal extension cords, power strips, and power cords of all kinds are not shielded.  The conductors inside the cord of a typical cord are just covered in plastic.  This allows the electric field - measured in volts per meter - to freely permeate out into the environment.

Dirty electricity is not nice!  Alternating-current electric fields are switching from positive to negative and drawing the electrons in one's body and then repelling them, causing oscillation.  In particular the high frequencies ("dirty electricity") are believed to be the most harmful.
