What is Blue Light? By now, you've probably heard that all the different digital screens in our lives can be robbing us of sleep, causing eye strain and even vision damage

What Do We Know Now About Blue Light?

I started wearing Blue Light Blockers 10 years ago!  You can see my original video if you scroll down.  Meanwhile Science has determined the exact wavelengths of Blue Light that can threaten our vision and eye health and the exact wavelengths that can make it harder for us to sleep at night.

What's the RIGHT Blue Light to Block?

The latest research is from 2019 and it's nicely detailed

"While short wavelengths in the range of 460 nm are very efficient in phase shifting of circadian system, intensive blue light in the range between 400 and 440 nm (See the Chart Below) is damaging to the retina via a photochemical reaction called photoreversal of bleaching.

The Latest Blue Light Research nailed down the importance of blocking the right Wave Length.

Now that we know more, we can be very specific in blocking the blue light from digital or natural sources that's most getting in the way of health and happiness.

Earlier studies  from over two decades ago were close but had a broader range showed the circadian photoreceptor system had a  peak sensitivity of: ~450–480 nm light within the blue portion of the spectrum (; ), and Vision Damage wavelenghts weren't yet determined.  YAY Science!

Which Glasses are Best To Block Blue Light?

The ones that can help your eyes relax, are comfortable and block in the correct range for the benefit you're seeking.

  • Circadian Rhythm and Sleep Sensitivity Peak: Blocking Blue light in the 460nm wavelength, the Peak of the blue light that prevents healthy melatonin production will help your body function better. When your body doesn't make melatonin, it stops you from getting a naturally good night's sleep- and more.
  • Vision and Eye Health Range:  Blocking Blue Light wavelengths from 400nm to 440nm, the blue light research shows harms our eyesight the most, will contribute to healthier eyes.

Different Color Lenses are better at blocking different Parts of the Spectrum.

This Chart shows Wavelengths in their nm measurements. The Blue Line corresponds to potentially Harmful-To-Eyes while the Yellow Line represents the wavelengths disturb our healthy melatonin production most.  (Check out our Ultimate Blue Light Screen Guide for all the details about the Research that this chart is featured in and lots more about Blue Light,  )

1. Sleep Prep Traditional Orange.  These glasses are our go-to for day time screen use- just to soften the glare and digital light. For Sleep Prep- make sure you  slip them on in the late late afternoon as the sun begins to set.  Blue light can come from your computer or any digital screen or white lights you have in your home and  that light stops melatonin release.

  • Circadian Rhythm and Sleep Peak: Blocks 91% of 460nm blue light
  • Vision and Eye Health Peak Range: Blocks 86% 400 to 440nm
  • 380-540 84%  All Circadian 84%
  • 400-500 87% ALL EYE HEALTH

2. Dark Grayish Green.  These darker lenses block 100% of blue and we find them best for watching TV at night in front of bright set or using your smartphone outside.  They may feel a bit dark right at first, but your eyes adjust almost immediately.

  • Circadian Rhythm and Sleep Peak: Blocks 100% of 460nm blue light
  • Approximate Vision and Eye Health Sensitivity:Blocks 100% 400 to 440nm bluelight
  • 380 to 540 All Circadian 96%
  • 400 to 500 All Eye Health 98%

3. Sun Block.

Have you heard about blocking natural blue light?

Hey- outdoor light can be harmful in high doses and when it's the brightest.  We wear sunglasses when we absolutely have to.  When we're near the sun is super bright or super low and in our eyes or when were near water and the sun is bouncing off of it and flaring our sensitive eyes.

We know it's bad when we're covering our eyes or squinting.

That's why we're now offering The Tech Wellness Blue Light Out Door SunBlockers.

Because they're wraparound, these glasses block much more blue light than traditional frames.  Most fashion sun glasses will block UV-A & B  but generally frames block 50% or less of the blue light. These glasses block a large percentage of the vision damaging wavelengths and the ones that stop our melatonin from being produced and mess with our sleep!

We call these the "red" glasses and they have quickly become our team's favorite.  They are dark orange with some red thrown in.  If you're outside and there's any kind of haze or cloudy, overcast conditions, these babies will light up your life!  They bring color back to your world and they will give you instant relief on those super bright days. It's like putting on happy glasses.

The Sun Blocks shield you from 96% of blue light in 380 to 450nm range the and 100% of UV-A & B. Blocks 95% 450-480nm

  • Circadian System Peak Sensitivity: Blocks 95% 460nm
  • Approximate Vision and Eye Health Peak  400 to 440nm 95%
  • 380-540 96% ALL CIRCADIAN
  • 400-500 96% ALL EYE HEALTH

Amber Lens

  • Circadian System Peak Sensitivity Blocks 74% 460nm
  • Approx Vision and Eye Health Peak Sensitivity Blocks 98% 400 to 440nm
  • 380-540 58%   ALL CIRCADIAN
  • 400 to 500: 65% ALL EYE HEALTH

Give yourself or someone you love the gift of much better sleep and much happier eyes!
